What will I be doing in this course?

In Astronomy you will study space, the universe, and the varied parts of the universe. The science of Astronomy is concerned with the bodies of our own solar system, as well as the stars and galaxies. Along the journey, you will also study about space exploration and technology. You will be expected to:

• Discover new ideas and relationships; improve your research skills; model parts of the solar system; participate in discussions; attend to presentations;
read and write about science; extend your lab skills;
and use technology.

• Assess your progress via independent assessments, quizzes, and comprehensive unit tests.

The timely completion of assignments is very important for an understanding of the material and success on assessments:

Ignites: The expectation is that Ignites will be completed in class. If you are absent, you are excused from the day’s Ignite.
Homework: The timely completion of homework is especially important for learning the material and keeping up with the pace of the course.
Labs: Lab work will support the understanding of concepts in Astronomy, as well as expose students to skills that cut across concepts. The timely completion of labs is also important for success on assessments.
